Large limestone armour stone blocks stacked as a retaining wall in a landscape setting

Armour Stone

Armour stone is available as pulled or sawn to size, with a sawn, broken or natural face. That's the first decision on any armour stone job: take it as pulled, straight off the quarry floor, or have it sawn to a size you specify. Either way it's stone measured and priced by the ton, not the inch, so the buying question is really about weight and equipment as much as face finish.

Weight

Average weight runs 1 to 2 ton per piece, up to 6-8 ton for large blocks. Size equipment and freight around the piece weight you are ordering, not an assumed average.

Sizes

Various heights, 12" to 30"+, in random shapes and sizes. Pieces are not cut to a fixed schedule the way pavers or coursing are — expect natural variation piece to piece.

Face Options

Sawn, broken or natural face, chosen individually or combined. Large block format is also available with a combination of sawn, broken and natural edges on the same piece, for a wall or feature that mixes a finished face with natural rock.

Applications

Landscape walls, retaining walls, outdoor seating areas, and shoreline restoration.

Smaller Scale, Same Job

For a retaining or garden wall at a smaller scale than armour stone, see limestone wall stone.
