Wiarton Stone: Dolostone, Ledgerock & Limestone Colours

Wiarton stone is our name for the dolostone quarried at our own site — a beige-to-black, medium-hard limestone also known in the trade as Wiarton Black Dolostone, Ledgerock, Eramosa, or simply Wiarton Stone. This page is the reference for the four colours we cut it into and what each is used for.

Limestone Weight Per Cubic Foot

The one number every fabricator and engineer asks for first. Our dolomite limestone layers average 165 lbs per cubic foot. Our Eramosa marble limestone runs slightly denser, averaging 177 lbs per cubic foot.

Four Colours, One Quarry

Algonquin, Ebel Mocha Ridge®, Ebel Pearl® and Eramosa Marble Limestone are each a genuine stone product cut from the same Wiarton quarry, and each adds charm and elegance to residential or commercial projects. All four are supplied in standard sizes and custom cuts for indoor and outdoor natural stone landscaping and architectural design work. What differs between them is colour, edge treatment, and the product lines each is best suited to — covered material by material below.

Algonquin

Algonquin is one of our core limestone colours, drawn from the same beige-to-black dolostone range as the rest of the quarry.

Available Styles: Sawn, sandblasted or honed top, with honed, sawn, guillotined, sandblasted or hand rocked edges; profiled edges available.

Available Products: pavers, coping, caps, curbing, door and window sills and lintels, wall panels, flooring, steps, treads, indoor and outdoor countertops and more.

Ebel Mocha Ridge® — Brown Limestone

Ebel Mocha Ridge® is our brown limestone, cut from the same dolostone family as Algonquin.

Available Styles: Sawn, sandblasted or flamed top, with sawn, guillotined, sandblasted or hand rocked edges; profiled edges also available. Honed top, with honed, guillotined or hand rocked edges.

Available Products: pavers, coping, caps, curbing, door and window sills and lintels, wall panels, flooring, steps, treads, indoor or outdoor countertops, and more.

Ebel Pearl® Limestone

Ebel Pearl® is quarried in block form as well as finished stone, so it's also specified for wall panels and tiles beyond the standard product range.

Available Styles: Sawn or sandblasted top, with sawn, guillotined, sandblasted or hand rocked edges. Honed top, with honed, sawn, guillotined or hand rocked edges.

Available Products: Slabs, sawn bed coursing, pavers, coping, caps, curbing, door and window sills and lintels, wall panels, flooring, steps, treads, indoor and outdoor countertops and more. Pearl blocks are also available for wall panels and tiles.

Eramosa Marble Limestone

Eramosa is our densest stone, averaging 177 lbs per cubic foot against 165 lbs for the rest of the quarry's dolomite layers. Eramosa Marble blocks are also available, for wall panels and tiles.
